The MAZE Study
We have a new study for children 7-12 years old.
This study has two parts.
Part 1
For the first part, we would talk to you three times over the phone about what your child ate the day before the phone call. These phone calls would take about 15 minutes each. If your child consumes a diet that fits into one of our groups, we would call you to participate in the second part of the study.
Part 2
The second part consists of one two-hour visit to the Nutrition Research Institute in Kannapolis, NC. At the lab, we will put a near infrared spectroscopy (NIRS) cap on your child’s head that measures your child’s brain activity. Your child will test out a new game – the maze – while wearing the NIRS cap. Your child will work their way from one end of a 6 x 8 grid to the other by stepping on squares. Your child will also play some games on a computer called CANTAB. You will fill out some forms about your child’s day-to-day mood and activities. We will also obtain your child’s height and weight and take a small blood sample using a finger prick.
